Micro-teaching

Hrmm....just did my micro-teaching this morning. Things didn't turn out so right. I prepared my lesson only 1 day before my micro-teaching. I didn't have the English textbook with me cause I lent it to my friend who went back to Miri for the holidays so I couldn't take back my book earlier. Thanks to my auntie who is also teaching Form 1 English. I went to her house to borrow her English textbook and some teaching materials. At the same time, I took this opportunity to look through her lesson plans that she prepared to get some ideas of what I should put into my own lesson plan later. Thanks a lot auntie Fiona, for your help! Really appreciated it.

The day before my micro-teaching, I really rushed with my preparations. I chose to teach Chapter 2 - Family Ties as I think its much easier and I got some useful ideas and resources from my auntie. Getting my lesson plan alone done already took me a lot of time as that was my first lesson plan so I totally had no experience in doing it. The teaching strategies, thinking skills and stuff already gave me headaches while preparing it. After finishing my lesson plan, I had to rush with my slides. Finding relevant pictures for my slides already wasted a lot of my time. Then I had to find a suitable example of a family tree to introduce to my students which wasn't easy to find. As it was getting very late, I got tired and ran out of ideas so I just finished off my slides like that. I think I got less than 10 slides...haha! And that's the shortest slide I've ever done. Sorry guys....if I didn't reply you or didn't chat with you that night cause I was really busy with my preparations.

The next day, I went to class late. Luckily Esther's the first to do her micro-teaching. I ran up the stairs all the way to the 3rd floor without even having time to catch my breath. By the time I entered the class I'm too exhausted to even apologize to the lecturer for being late...haha! Then Esther started her teaching. She taught us English too but hers was Chapter 3. We're supposed to teach for 20 mins but she only taught us for 10 mins...haha! Her teaching was simple, without using any slides and just according to the textbook. After that, it was my turn. I tried to open my slides but it just wouldn't open. Don't know what's wrong with it. Regretted for not checking it first when saving it to my thumb-drive. And there's this weird problem with the laptop too. Don't know what happened to the screen. There were lines all over. So I ended up teaching without my slides. I used the whiteboard instead which made my teaching very simple too. There were lots of class activities that I need to cancel because of those technical problems....really disappointed. Besides using the whiteboard, I interacted a lot with my students where we have question and answers and completing some worksheets that I handed out to them. My students weren't really 'naughty' so I manage to handle the class well. My micro-teaching was fun just that those technical problems spoiled it all.

Then there came the comments from my lecturer and my other classmates. My lecturer said that I exceeded 10 mins which means I taught for 30 mins instead of 20 mins...haha! He also said that it would be very nice to have teachers like me and Esther because we're really 'nice' and 'patient' for not scolding any of the students when they misbehave...haha! He also praised me for my creativity which should actually go to my auntie cause she really helped me a lot with my preparations. Then one of my classmate commented that my voice range is more suitable for adult teaching which means I'm more suitable to be a lecturer than a teacher...haha! But my lecturer sided me instead, saying that 13 years old can be categorized as adult already...lol! There were other comments too but I can't remember them at the moment. I think I better stop here or else I'll bore whoever that's reading this...haha! So that's all for now. Hopefully I'll be able to update something new soon. ;)
